Kashmir scientists develop wheat varieties to solve crop cycle issue

Scientists at SKUAST-Kashmir have developed two new early-maturing wheat varieties, Shalimar Wheat-3 and Shalimar Wheat-4, to optimize the region's rice-wheat cropping system. These varieties allow for harvesting by late May or early June, enabling farmers to transplant paddy on time and improving food security. The development addresses the long-standing challenge of late-maturing varieties from sub-tropical regions that disrupted traditional cycles.
